Global Internship Program

Our award-winning Global Internship Program (GIP) gives top college students the opportunity to work abroad and see what it takes to be a global professional. After starting your GIP internship at a KPMG office location in the U.S., you'll spend four weeks on assignment with international teams on major client accounts, with a global support network there to guide you every step of the way. KPMG clients and the capital markets are becoming more international every day, and the GIP is a great first step for professionals of the future.

Embark Scholars Program

We designed the Embark Scholars Program to help high-performing students begin their career journey with the tools to be the KPMG leaders of tomorrow. This internship offers industry-leading technical and professional development training across all KPMG service areas and more. We place an emphasis on upskilling and development of our Audit professionals every day through on the job mentoring, virtual live and on-demand courses, and instructor-led courses at Lakehouse. As a first-year Audit associate, you'll attend Audit Foundations, a dynamic, one-week program advancing technical, business, and leadership skills as you address real-world case studies. You'll also attend a Road to In Charge program designed to deepen your knowledge of the audit, the industry you serve, and your ability to provide effective feedback. Our ongoing professional development program embeds emerging skills, like data and analytics capabilities alongside higher-order thinking to support the growth of our next-gen auditors.

As a first-year Tax associate, you'll attend Tax Foundations, an immersive program challenging you to think beyond the return and appreciate the impact of tax decisions. But this is just the beginning. As you continue your Tax career journey at KPMG, you’ll discover the limitless training opportunities designed to help you develop a broad-based knowledge of technical issues and complementary leadership skills.

As a first-year Advisory associate, you'll attend Advisory Foundations, a one-week intensive training program focused on the specific services you'll be providing in your first engagements and consultant skills you can apply to a wide range of future challenges. Within your first year (and in every year to follow), you'll attend in-person Advisory Learning sessions, where you'll have the opportunity to design a training week based on your individual learning needs and interests. The annual Advisory Learning Paths process will help you choose from thousands of Web-based learning resources to continue building your skills and move your career forward.

Self-reflection & Resume

Review your resume thoroughly, noting your strengths and weaknesses, personal values, and key skills, and how they relate to the job for which you are interviewing. Your resume is all about you, so make sure it comes across that way during the interview. For more advice on building your resume, check out our resume tips below.

Assess your skills

• Be concise and do not exceed one page
• Keep it neat, organized, and easy to read
• Ensure formatting is consistent throughout the resume and use spell check
• State your best qualities through your work experience and on-campus activities
• Be honest and professional
• Use action verbs to describe your duties and responsibilities (e.g., developed, managed, created, etc.)
• Quantify experiences to show levels of responsibility (e.g., number of people supervised).
• Avoid "buzzwords" and abbreviations

Key areas to cover

• Contact Information: Name, Address, Email, Phone
• Education: Specify major/degree, as well as the month/year that you will be completing all planned college education
• GPA: Include both overall and major
• Include all work experience, highlighting the positions held, names and locations of organizations, dates of employment, and work responsibilities
• Activities/leadership roles, volunteer activities, honors and achievements (as applicable)

Acing the Interview

Do your research! Familiarize yourself with KPMG's business environment and the various career paths available within the firm. As a part of your preparation, take the time to practice answering questions about your qualifications and experiences.

Sample Interview Questions

• How effectively do you balance your course load at school with any jobs or extracurricular activities?
• Describe the most challenging situation you've had to deal with and the ways you dealt with it.
• Describe a situation where you have thought of a new or creative way of dealing with a problem.
• Describe a time when you encountered an especially difficult project. What did you do and what was the result?
• What do you consider to be your greatest personal or school-related accomplishment and what steps did you take to achieve it?
• Describe your most successful effort in promoting teamwork within a group and how they responded.
• Describe a situation when your work or one of your ideas was criticized. How did you respond?
• Describe a situation in which you've shown a great deal of initiative.
• Describe a goal that you have set for yourself in the last year.

The most important aspect of this exercise is to give real thought to yourself and your abilities while helping you to be more comfortable during the interview.

Interview Tips

• Be sure to give concise answers.
• If you need to organize your thoughts as you're speaking, pause; silence works better than stumbling over words.
• Be positive. No one else is you, so talk about your experiences in and out of school. Don't apologize for a lack of experience, instead, emphasize your strong points.

Come prepared to ask thoughtful and engaging questions about KPMG as well as the role for which you're interviewing.

After The Interview

Send a thank-you message. It is professional to show your appreciation to your interviewer. Reiterate your interest in the position, and reflect on some of the highlights of the interview. Remember to be prompt, concise, and gracious.

Every day, we communicate with other people. Communication can be verbal, written, or even nonverbal through our body language. To improve your communication skills, it takes practice and constant self-review.

Tips for Effective Communication

• Be clear about what you want to express. This keeps your audience focused on you.
• Find common ground in any communication situation. You can build relationships by embracing the similarities.
• Aligning your actions and words. This makes you more consistent and trustworthy.
• Nonverbal cues. Studies show that body language is a more integral part of communication than speech.
• Communicating styles impact peoples’ perception of you. Be enthusiastic and optimistic in order to show the best version of you.

Application Process

• Before you get started on your application, you will need to determine which practice area and location is of the most interest to you. If you’re unsure about your fit, you can take the time to research what we do or use our Degree Matcher now.
• You can easily browse and apply to any open position nationwide in Job Search. You will also be able to filter by office location and business area to apply for your most preferred position. To complete the application, you’ll need approximately 10 minutes of time along with a resume and unofficial transcript if you’re currently a student or graduated with a bachelor's degree or higher in the past 12 months. KPMG recruits on a rolling basis. Candidates are considered as they apply, until the opportunity is filled. Candidates are encouraged to apply expeditiously to one role for which they are qualified, that is of the greatest interest. You are limited to a maximum of two active applications.

Interview Process

Soon after the application deadline, you'll be notified if you've been selected for an interview. If your application progresses, you will have two live video interviews with business leaders, which provides scheduling flexibility. To interview successfully via video, you’ll want to practice beforehand:

Make sure you understand the tech being used! Read the instructions provided ahead of time to understand the technology and use a compatible internet browser.

• Test your internet connection, audio, and video with a friend to make sure everything is in working order.
• Keep your device plugged in during your interview.
• Place your phone on silent!
• Turn off distractions on your computer such as text/email alerts and other notifications.
• Try to use your laptop/tablet instead of a cell phone (to avoid the appearance of Face Timing a friend).
• Wear professional clothing and accessories.
• Speak clearly and look directly into the camera.
• Be aware of your background and lighting, keeping it as professional and bright as possible.

Specifics vary by KPMG office, but after your video interviews, you’ll hear if we are extending a job offer or an invitation to visit one of our offices in person.
